Working with Files and Folders

 

FILE

A file contains a part of the information stored in the computer. There are many types of files like text files, audio files, image files, etc.

Saving a File

After creating a file, you would want to save the contents of the file on the hard disk. To do so:

→ Click on file
→ From drop down menu, click on Save As.
→ From the window that opens, select the correct folder and the file name needs to be typed in.
→ Press the save button at the end. 


FOLDER

A folder can hold a collection of different types of files as well as it can contain other folder in it too. 

Creating a Folder

To create a new folder, follow the given steps:
→ Right click on the Desktop.
→ Select New. A Sub Menu appears.
→ Click on the Folder
→ Types the name of the folder according to your choice.


Renaming a file/folder

Rename means to change the name of the existing file or folder. To rename a file or folder follow the given steps.
→ Select the file or folder that has to be renamed. 
→ Right Click on the file/folder. A drop down menu appears.
→ Click the Rename.
→ Type the new name of your choice. 

Deleting a file/folder

To delete a file or folder follow the given steps.
→ Select the file or folder that has to be deleted. 
→ Right Click on the file/folder. A drop down menu appears.
→ Click the Delete option. The delete file or folder dialog box will appear
→ Press Enter or click the Yes button to delete or No to cancel the task.

Copying a file/folder

To copy a file or folder follow the given steps.
→ Select the file or folder that has to be copied. 
→ Right Click on the file/folder. A drop down menu appears.
→ Click on Copy.
→ Select the location in the left pane where the file or folder has to be placed. 
→ Right click on the desktop and click on the paste option. 


Moving a file/folder

To copy a file or folder follow the given steps.
→ Select the file or folder that has to be moved. 
→ Right Click on the file/folder. A drop down menu appears.
→ Click on Cut.
→ Select the location where the file or folder has to be placed. 
→ Right click on the desktop and click on the paste option.
