Types Of Basic Operating Systems

     There are three types of operating systems:

• Interactive (GUI Based)
• Real time
• Distributed

GUI based Operating Systems

GUI Operating System contains graphics and icons and is commonly navigated by using a computer mouse.

Eg: Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows 98, Windows 10

Real time operating systems

Real time operating systems are used to control machinery, scientific instruments and industrial systems.

Distrubuted Operating System

An operating system that manages a group of independent computers and makes them appear to be a single computer.

Types of distributed computers are as follows:

• Client-Server Systems - Computer Server System, File server system
• Peer to Peer System
